To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB I'Innss, a citizen of the -Kingdom of Bavaria, residing at Ebertsheim, Rhein-Pfalz, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Sorting and Cleaning Waste Paper, Rags,land the Like, of which the following is a specification.
The subject-matter of this invention is an.
improved apparatus for sorting and clean- 2 paper, rags or the like, is thrown onto the lng waste paper, rags and the like, which! comprises, onl the one hand, a longitudinally reciprocating perforated channel or screen which slants downward toward its front discharging end and is carried by suspension springs which are likewise arranged slantwise, and, on the other hand, a dust chamber below and extending the entire length of the same, from which the dust collected therein is sucked away. This construction of the apparatus causes the material which is to be sorted to be cleaned very well from dust and other small particles because, owing to the described mode of suspending the screen, the latter is simultaneously oscillated ito and fro, and moved upward, so that the material to be sorted is moved forward in a hopping motion from the upper end of the screen to the lower. The removal of the dust from the material to be sorted is aided by the suction chamber provided below the screen sucking away and removing the dust which is subsequently sucked awayfurther atthe lowest -part of the suction chamber by a fan or the like The screen is preferably suspended by mezins of the springs from the frame of the'apparatus in such manner that its slanting position can be adjusted as desired, whereby the feed of the material to be sorted can be regulated as desired.l
One form of apparatus accord-ing to thek invention is represented in Figure vv1 in side elevation and in Fig. 2 in plan onthe accompanying drawing.
Referring to the drawing four springs b, e. g. of wood, which slant toward the front end of the screen c are adjustably attached by means of the brackets f to the four standards a connected with one another at their top ends by tie rods a. xTo the bottom ends of the sprlngs b is attached the forwardlyinclined shaking screen c below which the suction or dust chamber d is arranged. The
front, lower end of the .dust chamber d is connected by a short pipe g and a flexible ytube h with a fan z' Whose pressure pipe leads to a dust-collector or into the open air. The screen is rapidly reciprocated through the medium of the connecting-rods c by two .eccentrics e on the common driving shaft Z 'and simultaneously moves rapidly up and idown.
The material to be sorted, such as waste upper end of the screen and after being ycleaned is thrown off at its lower end.` The dust which collects in the chamber d when the screen is set in motion yis sucked away by thev fan z', while other small foreign bodies, such as stones, pieces of iron and the like, in the material to be sorted collect in the tube h or in the front end of the dust chamber and must be removed therefrom from time to time.
I claim l 1. A hand sorting and cleaningapparatus for waste paper, ragsvand the like, comprisin in combination, a screen for receiving the material to be sorted and having its upper portion exposed and freely accessible to the hand of the operator, spring suspension means for said screen, means for reclprocating said screen, and means for maintaining a downward current 'of air through the material and said screen whereby dust is 'convoyed away from the eyes of the operator, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. i

A hand sorting and cleaning apparatus for waste paper, rags and the like, comprisymounted thereon, a screen carried `by said springs, a dust-chamber directly under and attached to the screen, means for producing a suction effect connected with said dustchamber, and means for longitudinally reciprocating the screen.

In apparatus for sorting and cleaning waste paper, rags and the like, the combination, Withthe frame, of slanting suspension springs mounted thereon, a forwardly slanting screen carried by said springs, a dustchamber extending 'the entire length of the screen directly under and attached to the same, means for producing a suction eect connected with said dustchamber, and means for longitudinally reciprocating the screen.
5. In apparatus for sorting and cleaning waste paper, rags and the like, the combination, with the frame, of slanting suspension springs adjustably mounted thereon, a forwardly slant-ing screen carried by said springs, a dust-chamber extending the entire length of the screen directly under and attached to'the same, means for producing a suction eect connected with said dustchamber, and means for longitudinally :reciprocating the screen.
6. A hand sorting and cleaning apparatus for Waste paper, rags and the like, comprislng in combination, a screen for receiving the material to be sorted and having its upper portion exposed and freely accessible to the hands of the operator, suspension means for said screen, a dust chamber below said screen, means for reciprocating said screen, and means for drawing air downwardly through said screen and dust chamber to convey the dust away from the eyes of the operator, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
