Description

CHARLES C. BRADY, OF EZRA, KENTUCKY.
intensi.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Iivs'ULAToE.
Patented June a, 191,2.
Application filed September 28, 1911. Serial No.' 651,830.
To all whom 2f may concern.'
Be it known that I, `CHARLES C. BRADY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ezra, in the county of Barren, State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insulators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willl enable others skilled in the art to which it iappertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvement in insulators. l
The principal object of this invention is to provide an insulator adapted to be quickly applied to a support and provided with a simple means for securing a telephone or other wire thereto.
Another object of the invention is to provide an insulator of the character described, which is provided With a drain whereby all water will readily pass therefrom, and thereby preventing the wire and its securing means from becoming corroded.
A further object of the invention is to provide an insulator which is composed of a minimum number of parts, is therefore simple in construction, and is cheap to manufacture.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out-in the claim hereto appended it` being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construct-ion within the scope of the claim, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing: Figure l is a top plan view of an insulator constructed in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is an end view thereof, Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the insulator, Fig. 4 is a central longitudinal sectional view through the insulator, Fig. 5 is a central cross sectional view through the same.
Like reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing, the invention comprises a substantially rectangular body 5 of porcelain or any other suitable insulating material. Centrally formed in the upper face thereof is a downwardly inclined longitudinal groove 6. Centrally formed in the body and communicating with the groove 6 and the bottom 7 is a vertical opening 8.
Formed in the top face of the body and in alinement with the opening 8 are opposed recesses 9-9 for receiving the usual tele phone or other wire 10. A hook-bolt 11 has its shank disposed within the opening 8 and the bill 12 thereof around the Wire 10. The opposite end of the bolt is threaded and projects below the bottom 7 of the body, and a nut 13 is associated therewith for crimping the wire l0 within the groove 6 to securely retain .the same against longitudinal movement, I
Formed in the body 5 and on opposite sides of the opening S are longitudinal openings 14-14, said openings being disposed at right angles to s aid openings S. Screws ifi-15 project through the openings lit-let for engagement with a cross arm 16er other suitable support. It. will thus be observed that by means of the screws l5 the insulator can be quickly attached to or removed from its support and by meansoilz the hook-bolt 1l, the wire 10 is prevented from movement. It will furthermore be observed that the hook-bolt 11 can be adjusted without the necessity of detaching the insulator, and by reason of this fact an old wire may be easily and quickly removed and a new one tuted whenever so desired.
IV hat is ciaimed is:
An insulator comprising in combination, a substantially rectangular body having a dmvnwardly inclined longitudinal groove formed in its top face and a central vertical opening communicating with said groove, said body being further provided with a pair of longitudinal openings disposed on opposite sides of the vertical opening for receiving attaching screws, and a hook-bolt disposed within the vertical opening for securing a wire to the body across the groove thereof.
In testimony whereof, I afliX my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES C. BRADY. lVitnesses:
C. IV. CIHLDREss, J'. G. MYERS.
