Be it known that I, GUY W. SEYBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bat son, in the county of Hardin and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump-Jacks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention is an improved pump jack, especially adapted for use in operating the pump rod of an oil well, the object of the invention being to provide an improved jack of this character which is extremely cheap and simple, may be readily and very expeditiously installed, may be very readily dis-assembled, and which does not require the use of bolts or other like devices in securing the parts thereof together.
The invent-ion consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices, hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawingsFigure 1 is a side elevation of a pump jack constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the side opposite that shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view. Figs. 5, 6 and 7 are detail views.
For the purposes of this specification, a well platform is indicated at 1, the pump standard or bracket is indicated at 2, and the pump rod which is guided by the bracket is shown at 3, the pump rod being provided with a diametrically enlarged head 4:. In accordance with my invention I provide a base beam a which is bowed or curved from end to end, is disposed longitudinally on the platform and is detachably held in place thereon by means of cleats '5 which are secured t0 the upper side of the platform. The bowed base beam lies fiat upon the platform and extends substantially from end to end thereof, the curvature of the beam enabling it to pass to one side of the pump rod where the latter passes through the platform. At opposite ends of the base beam are transverse horizontal open ended slots 6, 7 The base beam may be very cheaply constructed of any suitable wood or lumber. I also provide a lever bar 8 which extends through the slot 6 of the base beam, its central portion being pivotally mounted by means of a pivot pin 9 which passes through the center of the lever bar and also through those portions of the beam 4 which form the upper and lower sides of the said slot. One arm 10 of the lever bar is provided near its outer end on its upper side with a socket 11, which is open on the side next the pump rod and deepens toward the opposite side of said arm. A rocking arm 12 has one end disposed in the slot 7 and pivotally connected to the corresponding end of the beam 4 by a pivot pin 13. The rocking arm 12 extends from the side of the base beam 4:, opposite the arm 10, of the lever bar '8, and is provided near its outer end on its upper side with a socket 14, which is open on the side next the pump rod and deepens toward the outer side of said rocking arm. The outer end of the rocking arm 12 is connected to the arm 15 of the lever bar 8 by means of a rod 16. This rod is provided with loops 18, 17, at its ends which respectively engage the rocking arm 12 and the arm 15 of the lever bar, and said arms are provided on their outer sides with suitable stop devices 19, which engage the outer sides of the ends of the loops, and thereby prevent the loops of the connecting rod from becoming unshipped casually from the ends of the rocking arm 12 and the arm 15 of the lever bar 8. By thus connecting the lever bar and the rocking arm together, they are caused to move in unison as will be understood. The lever bar 8 is operated by the usual pull bar or rod indicated at 20 and which is driven by a suitable rig.
A pair of links 21, 22 which may be also cheaply constructed of wood, are provided. The lower ends of these links are rounded and are mounted in the sockets 11,14, respectively of the lever bar 8, and rocking arm 12. These links are disposed in line with each other, are inclined and converge upwardly, and are provided with bevels 23 at their opposing upper ends, their upper ends being provided in the faces formed by the said bevels with vertical-grooves or recesses 24 to receive opposite sides of the pump rod so that the extreme upper corners of the said links will bear directly under the head 41 of the pump rod at opposite sides thereof, so that the weight of the pump rod will be maintained by the said links and the connected lever bar and rocking arm. It will be understood that when the pull rod moves the lever bar in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 2, the arm 10 of the lever bar and the rocking arm 12 will move toward each other, hence moving the lower ends of the links 21, 22, toward each other, and therefore causing the upper ends of the links to move upwardly and correspondingly move the pump rod upwardly.
When the pull rod permits the lever bar 8 to move in the reverse direction to that indicated by the arrow in Fig. 1, the pump rod by its gravitating action will cause the links 21, 22 to move the arm 10 of the lever bar 8, and the rocking arm 12 in opposite directions, as the pump rod descends.
It will be understood that in order to dismount the pump jack, it is only necessary to unship the links 21, 22 from the pump rod and the sockets of the lever bar and rocking arm, to then withdraw the pivot pins 9, 13 so as to disconnect the lever bar and the rocking arm from the base beam 4 to detach the connecting rod from the lever bar and the rocking arm, and then lift the lever beam from the well platform, and the cleats 5 which form seats therefor. It will also be understood that my improved pump jack may be readily and very expeditiously assembled and put in operation, and that since all its parts are readily separable, the pump jack may be very readily transported from place to place.
I claim:
In a pump jack, in combination with the platform, the pump standard, and the pump rod of an oil well, said pump rod having a head, a base beam detachably secured on the platform, a lever bar having its central portion pivotally mounted at one end of the base beam and being provided near one end with a recess in its upper side, a rocking arm pivotally connected to the opposite end of the base beam and provided in its upper side near its outer end with a recess, the said rocking arm extending in an opposite direction from the recessed end of the lever bar, a rod connecting the lever bar and the rocking arm together for movement in unison, a pull rod connected to the recessed end of the lever bar and a pair of oppositely eX- tending inclined links having their lower ends detachably mounted and articulated in the sockets of the lever bar and rocking arm and having their upper ends engaged with the head of the pump rod on opposite sides of the latter.
