DOOR-LOCK.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 12, 1912.
Application filed September 12, 1910. Serial No. 581,493.
To all whom it may concern.
` Be it known that I, JOHN M. SAULEIIio, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of St. Charles, county of Kane, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door- Locks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in door-locks and has for its object the provision of a door-lock which is of simple construction and efficient in operation.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
My invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specication, and in which,
Figure l is a sectional elevation illustrating my lock as applied to a door, Fig. 2 is a section on line of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a section on line .fl/ y of Fig. l.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a casing l secured to door frame 2 adjacent the free edge of the door 2. Casing l is provided in its lower portion with a transverse opening adapted to slidably receive a bolt ar 3. Casing l is also provided in its upper portion with recesses 4 adapted to receive tumblers 5 which are normally pressed toward said transverse opening by means of springs 6. Bolt bar 3 is provided with a recess 7 open at the end away from door 2 and with upwardly extending perforations 8 adapted to register with and receive tumblers 5. Hand piece 9 is arranged to be inserted into recess 7 and is provided with npwardly extending projections l0 adapted to enter perforations 9 to force tumblers 5 therefrom. In each end bar 3 is provided with outwardly extending projections l1 adapted to engage the sides of casing l to limit the movement of bar 3 in each direction.
In use all that is necessary to bar the door 2 is to slide bar 3 in casing l to cause its end t0 project over the free edge of said door and perforations 8 to register with tumbler-s 5. In this position tumbler-s 5 enter perforations 8 and securely lock the bar against return movement. To unlock the. door all that is necessary is to insert hand piece 9 into recess 7 until projections 10 register with perforations 8 then elevate hand piece 9 until tumbler-s 5 are forced out of perforations 8 when bar 3 may be slid backwardly by means of hand piece 9, the projections 10 holding tumble-rs 5 from reentry into perforations 8. When the door is locked hand piece 9 may be removed in which case it is impossible to open the door without first obtaining possession of the hand piece er a similar instrument.
fhile I have illustrated and described t-he preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect this is capable 0f variation or modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the exact details set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
I-Iaving described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a door lock, a casing provided with a transverse opening, a bolt bar slidable through said opening and provided with a longitudinal recess, a spring pressed tumbler in said casing adjacent said opening, a perforation in the bolt bar extending into said recess and adapted to receive the end of said tumbler, said tumbler being pro vided with a shoulder to engage said bolt bar and limit the inward movement of the salne, a hand piece adapted to be inserted in said recess, and a pin on said hand piece adapted to enter said perforation to displace said tumbler and to engage the bolt bar whereby said bar may be moved by said hand piece, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN M. SAULEIKO.
