CLARENCE MAYER AND SAMUEL YAFFE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNORS 'IOA NATURES RIVAL COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLI- NOIS.
FORM-riens.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that we, CLARENCE MAYER and SAMUEL YAFFE, citizens of the United States, and residents of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Form-Pads; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a garment provided with bust pads for filling out and modifying the bust portions of the human figure.
The object of the invention is to provide an article of apparel in the form of what is generally known as a corset cover having a part covering the bust which is provided with pockets adapted to contain pads which hold the waist in a definite form which simulates the human bust, and to provide an improved construction of pad which will hold its shape without inflation, thereby greatly reducing the cost of such pads.
The invention consists of the matters hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the human ligure with a corset cover provided with our improved pads in position thereon. Fig. 2 is a perspective view on an enlarged scale of one of the pads. Fig. 3 is a partial section through Fig. l on the line 3 3 thereof, shown on a slightly larger scale than that of Fig. l. Fig. 4 is a section through Fig. 2 on the line 4 4 thereof on the same scale as that of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a partial section similar to Fig. t on an enlarged scale.
A indicates the waist or corset cover which may be of any usual or convenient construction, and is adapted to be worn above the corset. It has the usual shoulder straps a, a which hold it in proper position with reference to the shoulders. Said waist is provided near its upper front margin with pockets B, B located so as to lie over the bust and conformed to receive the elongated Specification of Letters Patent.

pads C which are of a shape and size to give the desired fullness to the bust.
In that embodiment of the invention illustrated herein, each pad C comprises a front member C1 and a rear member C2. The front member C1 is preferably made of a plurality of pieces, in this case three, c c1, c2, which are cut to give said front member the desired rounded appearance. Said pieces are seamed together, as indicated at c3, c3. In the front member C1 are formed a plurality of long, narrow pocket-s which are arranged close together and extend generally in a vertical direction. In the pocket-s o are located ribs b1 which are made of whale-bone, light wood or any other suitable elastic material, which is adapted to hold the pocket in distended form. The rear member C2 is secured at its margins to the margins of the front member Cl and is of smaller extent than the front member. The rear member thus draws the Amargins of the front member toward each other, as clearly to be seen in Figs. 3 and 4. This draws the ends of the ribs toward each other, so as to maintain them in bent relation, thereby maintaining the required rounded front of the front member C1.
It is apparent that by properly proportioning the sizes and shapes of the front and rear members, any desired form may be attained and that the rear member will hold the front member in this desired form permanently. This construction does away with the necessity for inllating the pads, and makes it possible to dispense with the use of rubber or other inflatable material, .thereby greatly reducing the cost of the pads.
The front and rear walls of the pockets B are basted together at their upper margins as indicated at b2 after the'pads are in place and when it is desired to launder the waist the basting threads may be removed and the pads taken from the pockets. The parts themselves are made of any suit-able iieXible material.
We claim as our invention The combination with a waist provided with a bust portion having pockets, of pads adapted to be placed in said pockets embracing e front Wall, stii'ening means proas our invention We aiflx our signatures in vided in said front Wall, and a rear Wall sethe presence of two Witnesses, this 24th day 10 cured at its margins to the margins of the if June A. D. 1910. front Wall, said rear Wall being of less eX- CLARENCE MAYER. tent than the front Wall, and being adapted SAMUEL YAEF E. to maintain said front Wall in the desired Witnesses: form. l JAY E. REEVES, In testimony that We claim the foregoing ELLA GRAHAM.
