THOMAS J. MADIGAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y
RAZOR-BLADE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented No". 21, 19! 1.
Application filed April 8, 1911. Serial No. 619.639.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, THOMA$ J. MADIGAN, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at N cw York city, in the countv of New York and State of New York, rave ll'll'flntet'l certain new and useful improvements in Razor- Blade llolders, of which thei'ollowing is a full, el and exact specification.
This invent ion relates to razor blade holders and more p'artieularly has reference to a handle or holding device for double or single edged safety razor blades. whereby the blade can be quickly fastened 't'or sharpening or stropping, and also firmly clamped. without .the use of screws.
()ne object of the invention is to provide a clamping device which will firmly hold the blade against displacement during:
sharpening, and which at the same time can be cheaply constructed.
in the accomlninying drawin". Figure i represents in perspective a handle, consl rurl ed according to my invention. with the blade in position; Fig. 2 is a side view; Fig. 1- shows the handle with one member of the blade clamp separated; Fig. =1 separated blade clamp; and Fig. 5 is a sec tion of the handle on the line I, 5 of Fig. il.
1 represents the handle having the sepa rated resilient clamping bars 2, separated to form a space in which to contain the blade 3 and having the rounded ends' l, 4. The resilient clam ping bars 2, 2 are provided with a ring or cap 6 ha ving a slot 7 toreeeive the end of the blade. to hold the blade from turning. 8 represents a clamp member having separated beveled at their ends 10 cap or ring (3. 11 is a slot at the other end of elaln J member 8 which receives the other end 0 the blade 3 and thereby prevents turning of the blade.
In order to clamp theblade in the holder,
to pass within the it is first. placed in approximately central position between the clampingbars 2, 3 and in the bottom of the slot 7 of ring 6. Then the clamping member 8 isdiorced thereom as far as it will go, and only the blade is held in the slot 11. It will be seen that a clamping client on eaell end is secured by the beveled ends it) wedging the bars 2, 2 together at the inner end of the blade, and the bcvclcd ends 4, i being wedged together ing from the scope of the. invention. consists generally shows the rings of tixcd diameter. and acting, b v triced to be elarnped at the outer end by the ring portion of the clamping member 8. The firm positioning of the blade is also assured by reason of the naturally curved ends which some blades have, thereby permitting the clamping ring b and the ring 6 to engage the ends of the blade at separated points. and therebv firmly holding the blade in position. i
From the foregoing description it will be seen that l have provided a blade holdri wherein the blade will be firmly held at ear! end by the wedging action of the clamping rings. and without necessitating thense ol' screws, pivoted clamps. or other txtl'illlt lls devices.
lt is thought that the method of use will be obvious from the foregoing dcscri ti an it beingseen that my dciiee is adapted either for clamping single or double edge-i blades. 7
Various modifications in the roost ruet ion and details ma be made without (repartwhich in clamping both ends of the blade simultancmlsl by means of clamp inn members cooperating with clamping;
tion without the use of screws or the like,
Having thus described my invention. l. declare that what I claim as new and do sire to secure by Letters Patent is?" l. 'lhc combination with a split handle. having-.1 clamping ring. of a split. separable clamping member adapted to engage said clamping ring); at one end. and to be engaged at the other end by the split end (it said handle. to clamp a blade.
2. razor blade holder romprising a ban dle portion having; its end split to ltttlYv a blade. a ring adjacent and surrounding the inner end of the split portion, and a. damp ing member comprising a ring; adapted to receive the split portions of the handle and having separated bars adapted to pass into said ring on the handle.
ii. A razor blade holder comprising a bandle carrying clamping;- bars separated to receive a blade, a slotted ring secured to said handle, and a separable blade clamping member comprising a. ring to clamp said bars on the handle, and a pair of bars adaptby said slotted rin 4. A razor blade holder comprising a ban- (1h: having separaiod clamping bars to 1'0- ceive a blfldfl, u (rhunping ring mu'z'iml by said handle and hzn'iug slots adwpfl-d to registpr with the spam: between sairl clamping bars, and :L l'ml'luvuhlc clamping membvl' mmprising a slotted ring having two bars mlapled tn pass into will ring on ihe handle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, 1n presume of two wltnesses.
