Description

J; WEBSTER. LUBRIGATOR. No. 10,767.
Patented Apr. 11, 1854.
UNITED s'rarns PA ENT oninon.
JOHN WEBSTER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LUBRICATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 10,767, dated April 11, 1854.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN VEBSTER, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Cocks,and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same oil-cock, with the improvements, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and letters of reference thereon, all of which form a part of this specification. I
The drawing is' a vertical sect-ion.
A, is the receiving cock for the oil.
B, is a passage for the oil.
C, is a reservoir for the oil.
D, is a discharge passage for the oil.
E, E, E, is a passage for steam.
F, is the upper plug.
Gr, is-the lower plug.
H, is a partition between the oil and the steam.
I, is a curved hole through the upper plug.
K, is ahole in the lower plug for the steam to pass through.
L, is a hole in the lower plug for the oil tobe discharged through.
The nature of my invention consists: in the arrangement of having the steam act. on the top of the oil as well as below the oil; by which means the oil is not obstructed in its passage by the steam.
To enable others, skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I shall further describe its construction and operation.
I construct a cock with its necessary plugs and passages, according to the accomthat the holes (K) and (L) will run cross- V wise and shut off the lower passages; I then turn the upper plug (F) so that the curved hole (I) (which before connected the steam passage with the oil passage) will connect the oil passage (B) with the reservoir (C) I put the oil into the cup (A) till the reservoir is filled; I then reverse the plug (F) so as to connect the steam passage again with the oil passage; I then turn the lower plug (G), opening the lower passages (D) and (E) the steam passage (E) beinglarger than the oil passage (D), the steam will pass through, to the top of the oil, before the oil passage (D) opens, which, as soon as the passage (D) is opened, will discharge the oil freely.
Having thus fully described my improved oil cock, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
I claim the combination of the divided chamber with a three way cock, one position of which admits oil to the chamber, but shuts off the steam; the other position shuts off the oil and allows the steam to pass from one partition of said chamber, to the upper surface of the oil in the other, for the pur pose substantially specified.
JOHN l/VEBSTER.
