An annular, axially yielding guard' 35 is mounted on the journal and enages the inner ends of the journal boxy and of the rollers to 'hold the latter in place. This guard is formed of a coiled strip of spring steel. Beyond the shoulder 33 the journal box is provided with a hollow projecting portion 36 having anlv openin therein normally closedjby a plug 37. T fs hollow projecting portion is adapted toreceive lubricant and supply the same to the surfaces of the bearings. The free movement of the spherical journal boxes within the correspondingly shaped seats of the supporting members accurately maintains the bearing rollers in roper engagement with' the cylindrical sur aces betweenwhich they are-interposed and prevents the wearing, displacement and breaking of the rollers due to the great shock and strain brought upon the parts as the truck passes over irregularities of the track.
In thel form shown in Figs. 5, 6 and 7 the supporting members ,for each journal box, comprise rings or keepers 38 whichare screw-threaded into a guide block 39', the latter having an internallythreaded bore or opening to receive the `rings or keepers 38 and the rings or keepersfhaving inner conf cave vspherical faces forming a seat for the journal box. The block 39 ts between the pedestals 21 of the truck and is provided with projecting guide -iianges 40 overlapping -the same. The end of the adjacent equalizer bar 23 is supported on the guide block 39. The rings or keepers 38 are pro` vided with flanges 41 which overlap the outer and inner faces of the guide block 39 and are also provided with holes 42 to receive a Spanner or like tool. This form in some respects is preferable to the form shown in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive, since the journal box may be morel readily removed for repairs or the like by rst removing the outer ring or keeper 38.
It is obvieuslthat the details set forth may be varied without departure from the essentials of the invention as defined in the claims.
I claim as my invention 1. In a car truck, the combination with the truck frame and pedestals, wheels and `wheel axles, of journal boxes, bearings mounted in said boxes for the journals of said wheel axles, and retaining members guided to shift vertically in the truck pedestals and held against lateral movement and wherein said journal boxes are movably mounted in a manner permitting the free transverse rocking movement of said wheel axles..
2. In a car truck, the combination with the truck frame and wheel axles, of closed journal boxes, bearings mounted in said body portions,

and retaining members guided to shift vertically in the truck frame and wherein said journal boxes are free to shift universally.
3. In a car truck, the combination with the truck frame and Wheel axles, of journal boxes for said wheelaxles having spherical and 'retaining members vertically guided and held against lateral movement on the truck frame and having correspondingly shaped seats wherein said journal boxes are movably mounted.
4. In a car truck, the combination with the truck frame and pedestals, wheels and wheel axles having projecting end journals, closed journal boxes having annular spherical body portions, bearings for said journals mounted in said boxes, blocks guided in said pedestals and retaining members or keepers for said journal boxes removably mounted in said blocks and having correspondingly shaped concave seats wherein said journal boxes are movably mounted. i

In a car truck, the combination with the truck frame, equalizer bars and springs, wheelsand wheel axles, of lboxes for receiving the journals of said axles, and supporting members for said equalizer bars vertlcally guided and held against lateral movement on said truck frame and wherein said journal boxes are movably mounted to permit the free transverse rocking movement of said wheel axles.
6. In a car truck,- the combination with the truck frame and pedestals, equalizer bars and springs, wheel and wheel axles having projecting end journals, of closed journsdv boxes having spherical body portions, bearings for said-journals mounted in said boxes, and supporting members for said equalizer bars vertically guided in said pedestals and having spherical concave seats wherein said journal boxes are universally movable.
7. Inl a car truck, the combination with the truck frame and wheel axles, of journal boxes for said wheel axles having annular` spherical body portions, and retaining m'embers vertically guided and held against lateral movement on the truck frame and having spherical concave seats for said journal boxes, each of said retaining members comprising connected sections.
8. In a car truck, the combination with the truck frame and pedestals, wheels and wheel axles having projecting end journals, closed journal boxes having annular spherical body portions, bearings for said journals mounted in said boxes, and supporting blocks or keepers 'vertically uided insaid pedestals and having sphericz concave seats for said journal boxes, each of said keepers comprising two connected sections.
9. In a car truck, the combination with the truck frame and pedestals, equalizer bars and springs, wheels and wheel axles having projecting end journals, of closed v'ournal oxes having annular spherical bo y portions, bearings for said journals mounted in said boxes, supporting blocks for said equalizer bars vertically guided and held .against lateral movement iii said pedestals and comprising connected sections having spherical concave seats wherein said journal i boxes are universally movable and free to creep. i
10. In'a car truck the combination with a truck frame and pedestals, wheels and wheel axles havin projecting end journals, of bearing boxes r said journals, supporting blocks verticallyaguided and held against lateral movement in saidvpedestals and wherein said journal boxes are movably mounted to 'permit the free transverse rocking movement ofvsaidjlwheel axles, and

In a car truck, the combination with the truck frame, and wheel axles having prosaid journals having annular spherical body portions and closed, hollow outer ends for lreceiving lubricant, and supporting members or keepers vertically guided inthe truck frame and having spherical concave seats wherein said journaly boxes are movably mounted.
17. In a car truck, the combination with the truck frame and edestals, equalizer bars and springs, whee s and wheel axles having projecting end journals, of .supporting blocks vertically guided and held against L lateral movement in said pedestals and whereon the ends of said equalizer bars rest, and bearing boxes for said journals movably-mounted in said supporting blocks to shift universally and rmit the free transverse rocking movement of'said wheel axles.
