ject being to provide novel means for maintaining the inflatable bag in an inflated condition, whereby the use of gas is dispensed with and air can be used for inflating the balloons.
A still further object of the invention is to provide the balloon, which is so construct- 'ed that .after thevsame has. been inflated, means is Aprovided for automatically closing the valve and maintaining the samelin closed position as long as the bag is inflated.
.By the above construction, a balloon formed in this manner, can be collapsed and packed in a small package, and the pur- -chaser can inflate the same as desired.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a novel form of holder for the balloon which is provided with a retaining ring forming a seat for the bag which also forms means for holding thebag away from the valve-fastening member, whereby the inlflation of the bag will holdthe valve in a,
closed position under tension. i Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will behereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1, is aside elevation of my improved yconstruction of balloon, showing the application of the saine' Vto a stall:l for supporting the same; Fig. 2, is a detail vertical section through the neck of the balloon showing the valve construction; Fig. 3, is a perspective view of the balloon retaining member; Fig. 4, is a side elevation of a pair of balloons arranged in position upon the holder, a staff 'of which'is- 2 to form a neck, inr which is arranged a tubular member 3 which secured therein by forming the endotlifheckswith a re- Specication of LettersPatent. l

.taining ring 5 which is adapted to hold the tubular member 3 securely in position within the neck and said tubular 'member is preferably formed conical, and is of a yielding material, such as cork; the bore thereof being provided with a conical valve seat`6 at its inner end in which .is adapted to be seated a conical valve 7, carried by a valve-stem 8 which is provided with a hook 9 at its 0pposite end, for the purpose later described.
The inward movement of the valve 7 is limited by the hook 9 and it will be seen that' when forced into the position as shown by dotted lines in \Fig 2, the inflatable bag can be inflated by forcing air throughthe member 5' and by drawing outwardly on'the valve-stem the conical valve will be drawn into its seat at the same time the yielding tubular member yielding to such an extent` that the bore thereof will be closed vso as to form an air-tight joint to retain the bagin an inflated condition. The pressure of the air against the valve holds the same `firmly in its seat.
In order to providemeans for retaining. the valve in a closed positionl under tension, and to provide means for supporting the balloons', I provide a ring-shaped holder 10 which is preferably 'formed of wire having an extension 11 terminating in a loop portion 12, which is in longitudinal alinement with the central porti-n of the ring and Vover which is adapted to be hooked, the hook 9 of the valve-stem 8, after the balloon has been placed in position within the ring so that the valve will be held in a closed position under tension by "the flexible bag, the distance between the loop portion 1'2 and the ring 10 being determined previously and according to what size of bag is to be used.. It will be seen that the inflated bag pressing against the ring portion of the holder forms means for holding the valve in its seat in such a manner that all danger of the valve being accidentally unseated is prevented as long as the bag is inflated. By the e'xpansion of the bag working against the ring,it forces the bag upwardly so as to apply ten-f sion to the valve stem. The loop portion 12 is provided with a staff 13 which ispreferably formed of a single piece of wirae teri In Fig. 4, I show the application ofmy invention to a dumb-bell, which comprisetf l a longitudinally slotted handle 16 in which I is secured a stall" 17, which is provided with a bagholder at each end, constructed in the 'same manner as that previously described, and by this construction, a pair of balloons can be supported in order to obtain a dumbbell effect. i
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have provided an inflatable bag with a valve-Which is heldin closed position by the inflation-ofl the bag when arranged Within the holder, and by the aid of the pressure of air iivithin the bag, and by this construction, the valve canA be unseated by simply removing the bag from the holder y'and forcing inwardly on the valve.
1. An. inflatable bag provided With a valve-controlledinlet, and a holder for said bag having a connection with the valve of saidbag for retaining said valve in closed position 'by the expansion` ofsaid bag.
2. A toy balloon comprising an inflatable bag having a valve-controlled inlet, a holder for said bag, land a connection from said valve to said holder forlholding said valve in closed position by theexpansion of said 4 bag.
, 3.' In a toy balloon, the combination with a holder comprising a ringLshaped frame and a spaced loop -in alinement With said frame, of an inflatable bag having a neck arranged Within said ring portion, a reciprocating .valve for closing said neck, and a tion.
4. A toy balloon comprising a ring-shaped holder having'a spaced loop portion in alinementtherewith, an inflatable bag provided with a neck arranged Within the ring portion of said holder, al tubular member arconnection from said valveto said loop porrangedwithin the neckof said bag provided With.a valve seat, .and a valve Working in said member having a connection with said loop portion.
5. In a toyballoon, the combination with an inflatable bag having a valve-controlled inlet opening, of a holder comprising a ring portion anu a loop portion in alinement with the center of the ring portion, and a conneet W :i said valve to said loop portion.
`ing' in a ring,
valve stem Working through said tubular member having a valve at its inner end, and a holder for said bag comprising a ring portion forming a scat for the bag and a'loop portion to which said valve stem is connected for maintaining said valve in a closed position by the expansion of said bag.
8. A toy balloon comprising a holder having a ringportion and a loop portion spaced apart, an inflatable bag seated upon said ring portion, said bag being provided with a valve-controlled inlet opening, and a connection'from said lvalve to the loop portion.
9. A toy balloon comprising an inflatable bag, a'valve for closing the opening of said bag, a holder for said bag having a connection with said valve for maintaining the valve in closed position by the expansion of said bag. y
' 10. As a new article of manufacture, a toy balloon comprising an inflatable bag provided With a neck portion, a tubular member arranged Within said neck portion formed of yieldable material andprovided with a valve-seat, a co-acting valve, and a holder for saidballoon comprising a. ring portion and a loop portion, and a connection from said valve to said loop port-ion.
11. A toy balloon comprising an inflatable bag having an inlet, a valve forcl'osing said inlet, a support for said bag, and aconnection from said support to said valve for maintaining the valve in closed position by4 the expansion of said bag.
In testimony whereof I aflix'iny signature in presence of two witnesses.
