BROOM ATTACHMENT.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AMANDA MCDONALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Central City, in the county of Lawrence and State of South Dakota, have invented a new and useful Broom Attachment, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to broom attachments.

The object of the invention is to provide a novel article to be attached to a broom, by which a cloth may be easily positioned and positively held around the sweeping end of the former, to adapt it for cleaning and dusting walls and cellings, and for sweeping smooth floors.

With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts of a broom attachment as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts: Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a broom head, showing the same equipped with the device of the present in vention. Fig. 2 is an edge View of the broom head and the attachment, the cloth being displayed in section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the attachment. 0

The attaclnnent comprises a metallic annulus 1, and a plurality of arms 2, constructed from resilient wire, the upper ends of which are formed into eyes 3 that loosely embrace the annulus, and the lower ends of which are formed into inturned hooks 4t, the points of which are sharpened. The annulus is made of a size to slip easily over the handle of the broom and the neck thereof and to rest upon the shoulder S, by which, as will be obvious, it is held from downward movement.

In employing the device, after the attachment has been positioned, a piece of cloth C of any kind is passed around the sweeping end of the broom, and drawn tightly upward, and the hooks t are then engaged therewith, as shown in Fig. 2. In order that the cloth may be held tightly in position, the straws of the broom will be flexed or bent to one side when the cloth is being positioned, so that when they resume their normal position they will exert a strain on the latter which will secure the object sought.

The loose connection between the annulus and the arms secures a range of adjustment of the latter that will adapt the attachment for use with a broom of any size,even a whisk broom, or one of any thickness, or shape, whether round or flat, and further, as the arms are free to swing laterally as well as to and from the broom head, they may be employed to secure in place a rag of irregular shape, thereby rendering it unnecessary to provide a bag-like hood, such as is commonly employed.

I claim:

1. A broom attachment comprising an annulus and a plurality of single arms loosely connected therewith, the terminals of which are formed into inturned pointed hooks.

2. .A broom attachment comprising an annulus and a plurality of single arms, the upper ends of which are formed into eyes that loosely engage the annulus, and the lower ends of which are formed into inturned pointed hooks.
