Description

W. H. GADMAN.
APPLIANCE FOR USE IN ADMINISTERING MEDIGAMENTS TO THE RESPIRATORY PASSAGES.
APPLIOATION FILED JUNE 2, 1911.

UNITED sTATns PATENT 9mm.
WILLIAM HENRY CADMAN, OF LONDON. ENGLAND.
APPLIANCE FOR USE IN ADMINISTERING MEDICAMENTS TO THE RESPIRATORY PASSAGES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 18, 1913.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY CAD- MAN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 8 High Holborn, London, in the county of Middlesex, England, manufacturer, have invented a new and useful Improved Appliance for Use in Administering Medicaments to the Respiratory Passages, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to appliances for use in administering medicaments to the respiratory passages, and more particularly to that class of appliance in which air is forced through a tube containing a fabric charged with medicaments.
The improved appliance comprises a tube which terminates at one end in a nozzle or nozzles and is closed at the opposite end by a stopper furnished with means for forcing air into an inner tube. This inner tube is provided with fabric saturated with medicament about which the air forced therethrough passes and becomes charged with the medicament. The medicament thus vaporized issues throu h the nozzles, and when the latter are place in the nostrils the medicament passes to the respiratory passages.
My improved construction of appliance is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which a, is the outer tube and b the inner tube. One end of the tube 1) is tapered and it attached by means of a rubber connection b, with the stopper 0, which latter-is inserted in one end of the tube a, the rubber. connection I) serving to form an air-tight joint with the tube a.- The stopper 0 is furnished with a flexible tubing d which terminates 1n an air bulb d. The opposite end of the tube a terminates in two nozzles a, a, but a single nozzle may be provided if desired. The nozzle or nozzles a may be formed integral with the tube a.
Withinthe tube 1) is placed the medicament charged fabric e, same being bound around with a cord 6 so as to form asp-iral passage. This fabric is retained in position wlthm the tube 6 by means of a spring 6 the arms of which press against the wall of said. tube.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is An appliance for administering medicaments comprising an outer casing terminat mg in a nozzle and having an open end, a stopper adapted to close said' open end, a tube for containing. a cartridge, a tubular elastic supporting member, one end of the supporting member being arranged between the open end of the casing and the edge of the stopper to form an airtight connection therebetween, the opposite end of the supporting member supporting the cartridge containing tube away from the outer casing,-
and forming an airtight connection between the support and tube, and means within the tube for supporting the cartridge.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.'
WILLIAM HENRY GADMAN.
