To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LoUIs W. VVRICHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles;

and I do hereby declare the following when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in

This invention relates to an improvement in buckles and particularly to slide buckles such as are commonly used on belts and various other purposes, the object of the invention being to provide convenient means for connecting a sheet metal slide with a cast metal frame; and the invention consists 1n the constructions hereinafter de scribed and particularly recited in the claim.

In one form of my invention and as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the draw ngs, the

buckle consists of a frame comprising side bars 2, 3, front bar 4, rear bar 5 andtransverse bars 6 and 7 the plane of theupper faces of the transverse bars 6 and 7 being slightly below the plane of the under face .of the front bar 4. These bars 6 and 7 are connected by a web 8 which supports a but ton 9. The slide 10' is struck up from sheet metal and is formed on opposite sides of its outer end with projections 11 and 12which form shoulders 13 and 14 which will strike the bar 6 and limit the inward movement of the slide. Preferably and as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings the central portion 15 willproject forward, and the object of this is to provide a suitable support for the slide and yet permit the Wings 11 and 12 to be so deep as to strengthen the outer end of the slide. This slide is formed with a longitudinal slot 16 opening-at the lower end into a hole 17 forming a keyhole slot which is adapted to set over the head of the button 9. The inner end 18 of the slide is turned downward in rear of the rear bar 7 and this interlocks the slide with the frame. slide is passed over the bars 6 and 7 and the hole 17 set over the button 9 and then the end of the slide 18 is bent. This prevents the removal of the slide. Obviously and as shown in Figs. 5 and 8 of the drawings instead of separating the bars 6 and 7 they may be formed as a single bar; and instead of supporting the button on the frame a button 19 may be mounted in the slide as shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6 in which case the wide back bar 20 will be formed with a slot 21 and hole 22 so that the button may pass through the hole and into the slot after which the end 18 will be turned as before and so as to interlock the slide with the frame. Or instead of providing a slot and hole, the back bar 20 may be formed with an open slot 23 as shown in Figs. 8 and 9 of the drawings; and instead of a slot and hole or open slot, the slide may be formed with a slot 24 and the button 25 passed through the slot and into the back bar of the frame after the slide is in place. The slide is thus interlocked with the frame and limited in its forward and rear movement by the slot 24' and thus avoids the necessity of opening the rear end of the slide. In this class of buckles it is usual to bow the outer end of the slide to form a gripping edge for the strap, but this leaves a space between the outer end of the slide and the frame, and to prevent this bowed portion from being flattened down the outer end of the slide may be formed with a finger 26 which is doubled onto the outerend of the slide between the wings 11 and 12 thus forming a support for the central portion of the slide. 3
