' citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bumpers or Cushioning Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be'a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it a-ppertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bumpers or cushioning devices which will be found to be very desirable and useful for a great variety of purposes, as upon loors, closet seats and for all manner of uses where it is desired to cushion the blow or Weight of any object contacting with another as in checkin the movement of levers and the like, an the object of my invention is to provide a simple, though reliably eliici'ent cushioning means which will accomplish -all of the various purposes enumerated at a minimum cost.

A further object of my invention, among others, is to provide reliable means for anchoring my cushioning device inits operative position upon or in connection with any object where it. is employed.

Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter made clearly apparent, reference being had to the accompanying drawings which are made a part of thisapplication, and in which,

Figure 1 shows my invention as a door bumper in checking the blow of the door against the door frame. Fig. 2 is a perspective detail view illustratin the use of my cushioning device 'upon a c oset seat. Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing my cushioning device as anchored in its operative position. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of my cushioning device or bumper, and Fig. 5 is a longitudinal central sectional view thereof.

In order to conveniently refer to the various features of my invention and coperating accessories, designating numerals will be employed, and referring to the numerals on the drawing, 1 indicates the body portion of my improved cushioning device or bumper which is provided upon one side with one or more anchoring stems 2, formed integral with the said body portion 1 and adapted to enter anchoring seats provided in the door frame,`closet seat or other place where my improved bumper is to be employed, and I prefer to so form the anchoring stems 2 that they will remain reliable in their respective anchored positions as in suitable apertures provided in a contiguous part of the door frame 3, seat 4 or the like, and I also provide said anchoring stems with a plurality of rib like devices 5, which are so inclined as to permit the free entrance of the stems into their respective seats but which will prevent the casual withdrawal thereof from their places of anchorage. I also in some instances provide inwardly tapering recesses in the ends of the anchoring members 2, to receive a tapering retaining member 6, as clearly shown 1n Fig. 3, whereby the extreme ends of the anchoring members 2 will be spread or enlarged suiciently to insure their retention within theIiIll' resplective seats. Obviously, my improved form of bumper orcushion may be used to great advantage in `a large number of places, as for instance in the various ways hereinbefore illust-rated, as well as in all positions where it is desired to cushion the blow lor protect the wall.

It is furthermore obvious that my invention may be manufactured of any suitable substance as rubber, fiber, or wood reinforced with felt or the like (not shown), and I reserve the right to employ any suit-able substance which mayA be found desirable.

When formed of resilient rubber, it is obvious that my specialform of cushion will be found very useful and eiiicient in the perfomance of its oce of cushioning al1 blows placed thereon, and having -thus described the construction and manner of using my invention, further description is deemed unnecessary.

What I claim is p 1. 2. As an article of manufacture, a, resilient bum er provided with a body portion, and anciiorin stems projecting from the rear of the bo y, the said stems having annular lips to hold the bumper in position.
