. y lie it known that l, W rLLLiM BARTHOLO- 3Min. citizen of the lUnited States, residing at Chioagmeounty of Cook, State of Illinois. hare invented Certain new and useful Improvements in Guti-Presses', of which the following" is a speeication, reference being had therein to the accompanying dra-Wing.
This invention relates to a culi press and particularly to a construction in which the goods supporting member is moved relative to the p: seing head.
The intention has for an object to pro- Vide a novel and improved construction by which a rod for reciprocating' the goods support is mounted for lateral oscillation in order that the support may be withdrawn laterally from alinement with the head and, when placed in such alinement, be forced into Contact therewith by a reciprocation ot its supportingl rod.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended Claims.
ln the drawings-Figure 1 is a front elevation of the press; Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof with the goods support Withdrawn; Fig. 3 is a. horizontal section on linel 3.-3 of 2; and Fig'. l is a rear elevation showing.,T the flexible steam connections with the head and goods support. v
YLilie numerals of referencev refer to like parts in the seyeral iin'ures of the drawings.
"The numeral designates a standard of any desired eonstrnetion' which is provided at its upper end With the support 11 for the pressing*"he-ad. ln Fig. 1, this support is duplicated in order to permit an alternate pressingl operation or" the pressing members.
These members may be of any desired construction, for instance such as shown in my application filed July 20, 1910, Serial lief 572.908, which illustrates the Central yielding head 12 piyotally mounted at l@ to a slightly yielding yole 11i whichearries at its lower ends the mori-able side heads 15. rEhe yoke 14- is held under tension by a spring 1S and 'the side heads are pivotally connected to the yoke-1li at 17 and also to pivoted links 18 at opposite sides thereof. The lower ends of the side heads are also Connected by links 19. Extending over the Y ressing heads 12 and 15,aiiezi`ole.pl ate 2O is t-.is'g-osed,` willich is adapted to be forced inward in the movement of the heads toward each other to prevent, a ridge or other distiguration of 'the articles pressed bet-Ween the members of the head. Each of these niembers is suitably heated and may Coun rise a steam Chest. Connected tor instance by means ot an inlet pipe 21 having' flexible Connections Q2 with the head members 1Q and 15, and also a Connection 2? extending to the' goods support 24. From this sup@ vBort, a flexible connection Q5 extends to an exhaust connection Q6 coinniunioatin;T with an exhaust pipe 2T. Flexible exhaust pipes Q8 also extend trom the head 12 to the connection QG and similar pipes Q9 extend from the side heads to this exhaust Connection, as shown in Fig. 4. By these connections. steam is applied both to the goods support and to the pressingheads eoperating therewith.v
For the purpose of reciprocatingV the goods support 21, it is mounted upon ani operating rod S0, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and this rod is connected with a treadle mechanism 31 of substantially the Construction shown in my Patent No. 952,721, hated March 2:2'. 1919, wherein the treadle is shown as conneeted with the rod by a yieldingy oonraienie'ri oet. sa.,
