Abstract

A process for the preparation of terephthalic acid involves oxidation of p-xylene and/or Me p-toluate in the presence of catalyst containing cobaltous acetate and manganous acetate followed by esterification withmethyl hydroxide and hydrolisys. The hydrolisys is carried out by aqueous vapor feed with temperature of 260-290°C and pressure of 45-80 bar in countercurrent to dimethylterephthalate with temperature of 190°C.
