Abstract
A rapidly releaseable safety coupling for the transmission of a torque between a clamping hub and a shaft comprises a clamping hub with an inner high-pressure chamber and an outer closing element. Torque transmission in the coupling takes place by frictional engagement with an inner friction sleeve and from the latter by positive engagement to the shaft, e.g. the roll of a rolling mill. For this purpose, the shaft has a toothed driver secured on its end and this driver engages in the friction sleeve. When the coupling is overloaded, the surfaces on the clamping hub and the friction sleeve which take part in the frictional engagement are able to disengage and rotate relative to one another without contact. The advantage is that torque transmission is by positive engagement to a shaft journal which nevertheless has a smooth surface and that, in the event of an overload, the disengagement of the frictional connection takes place within the coupling while the surface of the shaft journal remains free from sliding processes. The coupling can be installed in any desired angular position of the shaft without the time-consuming process of turning the parts to be connected.
