Abstract

A roller for, for example, a shopping cart, having two axially spaced tread surfaces, comprises a hub (7,8) on which there are a pair of coaxial annular bearing races (21,22) that face obliquely axially towards one another and radially outwardly. The hub is surrounded by two annular roller discs (11,12) in concentric, axially side-by-side relation, ion each having an axially narrow circumferential tread surface (17,18). Each roller disc has an annular bearing race (13,14) that opposes one of the bearing races on the hub, and ball rings (9,10) are confined between opposed bearing races to permit the roller discs to rotate relative to the hub and to cooperate with the bearing races in confining the roller discs against axial separation beyond a predetermined distance. The roller discs have opposing annular bearing race grooves (25,26) at their axially inner faces, accommodating another ball ring (27) that maintains substantially said axial separation between the roller discs and permits then to rotate independently for easy traverse of a curved path. <IMAGE>
