Abstract

The method and equipment are for the estimation of the inclination of a vehicle on the road, where the vehicle (100) has a front axle (101) with steering wheels (102,103), a rear drive axle (104) with driving wheels (104-108), and a rear unloading axle (109) with wheels (110,111). The vehicle also has a gearbox (112) coupled to its engine (113), which drives the drive axle (104) via a shaft (114) emerging from the gearbox. The gearbox and engine are controlled by respective units (115,116), which in turn are controlled by a superimposed control unit (117). The engine management system control unit (116) controls the vehicle engine functions, which can e.g. comprise fuel injection and brake. Control is based on a number of input signals, which can be from fuel control, speedometer and brake control system. The gearbox management system (115) controls the gear change functions, where with an automatic gearbox control can be based on an input signal from the speedometer. With a manual gearbox an input signal is provided from the gear lever. The brake management system (120) covers automatic braking adjustment and brake distribution between e.g. retarder, exhaust gas brake and wheel brake, and automatic estimation of loads, so that a given pedal position can always give the seame brake effect, irrespective of load. The brake control unit sends control signals to control modules set out on the chassis, where electrical control signals are e.g. used for regulating brake pressure. In the estimation of the tilt of the vehicle, which is very important when turning, an appropriate arrangement (200) is connectged to the engine control unit, the gearbox control unit and the superimposed control unit, so that an inclination estimation is made available to them for use with one or more functions, such as automatic road holding, automatic gear change and/or prediction of vehicle movement and behaviour.
