The method of acoustic representation of spatial information for the visually impaired refers to the creation of instruments for orientation in the surrounding space. Known technical systems, as a rule, are ultrasonic locators operating in the range of 40–120 kHz. For the perception of the human auditory analyzer, the reflected signal must be transferred to the region of sound frequencies, which is carried out using the selection of the low-frequency envelope. At the same time, the signal perceived by the auditory analyzer contains information mainly from the distance to the object. In the proposed method, in order to match the frequency and time ranges of the acoustic signal with the auditory analyzer, a change in the time scale of the reflected signal in each reception channel is used. An ultrashort probe pulse is emitted. In this case, the echo signal is close to the impulse response of the object. The perception by the visually impaired of signals reflected from several nearby objects, allows him, after workouts, to perceive an acoustic picture of the environment.
