Abstract
일반식(I-Ⅳ)으로 표시되는 화합물을 함유하고, 일반식(I)으로 표시되는 화합물을 함유하는 액정 조성물 및 이를 사용한 액정 표시 소자를 제공한다. 본 발명의 액정 조성물은, 굴절율 이방성(Δn) 및 네마틱상-등방성 액체상 전이 온도(Tni)를 저하시키지 않고, 점도(η)가 충분히 작으며, 회전 점성(γ1)이 충분히 작고, 탄성 상수(K33)가 크며, UV 조사 후의 전압 유지율(VHR(UV))이 높고, 절대값이 큰 음의 유전율 이방성(Δε)을 가지며, 또한 이를 사용한 표시 소자는 표시 불량이 없는 또는 억제된, 표시 품위가 우수하고, 빠른 응답 속도를 실현할 수 있다.

- 일반식(I-Ⅳ)
(식 중, RⅣ1 및 RⅣ 2은, 각각 독립하여 탄소 원자수 1 내지 10의 알킬기, 탄소 원자수 1 내지 10의 알콕시기, 탄소 원자수 2 내지 10의 알케닐기 또는 탄소 원자수 2 내지 10의 알케닐옥시기를 나타내며, 기 중에 존재하는 1개의 -CH2- 또는 인접해 있지 않은 2개 이상의 -CH2-는 각각 독립하여 -O- 또는 -S-로 치환되어 있어도 되고, 또한, 기 중에 존재하는 1개 또는 2개 이상의 수소 원자는 각각 독립하여 불소 원자 또는 염소 원자로 치환되어 있어도 된다)으로 표시되는 화합물을 1종 또는 2종 이상 함유하고, 일반식(I)

R2, R3, R4 및 R5은, 각각 독립하여 탄소 원자수 1∼8의 알킬기를 나타내며, 당해 알킬기 중에 존재하는 1개 또는 2개 이상의 -CH2-는 각각 독립하여 -O-, -S-, -CH=CH-, -C≡C-, -CO-, -CO-O-, -O-CO-, -OCF2- 또는 -CF2O-로 치환되어도 되고, R2과 R3 및/또는 R4과 R5은 서로 결합해서 환을 형성해도 된다. R6 및 R7은 각각 독립하여 수소 원자 또는 탄소 원자수 1∼6의 알킬기를 나타내며, 당해 알킬기 중에 존재하는 1개 또는 2개 이상의 -CH2-는 각각 독립하여 -O-, -S-, -CH=CH-, -C≡C-, -CO-, -CO-O-, -O-CO-, -OCF2- 또는 -CF2O-로 치환되어도 된다. n1은 1∼6의 정수를 나타내지만, n1이 2∼6의 정수를 나타낼 경우, 복수 존재하는 R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6 및 R7은 동일해도 되며 달라도 된다. M1은 1∼6가의 유기기를 나타내지만, M1의 가수(價數)는 n1이 나타내는 수와 같은 수이다)으로 표시되는 화합물을 1종 또는 2종 이상 함유하는 액정 조성물. - 제1항에 있어서,
일반식(I-Ⅳ) 중의 RⅣ1 및 RⅣ 2이 각각 독립하여 탄소 원자수 2 내지 10의 알케닐기 또는 탄소 원자수 2 내지 10의 알케닐옥시기를 나타내는 화합물에서 선택되는 1종 또는 2종 이상을 함유하는 액정 조성물. - 제1항 또는 제2항에 있어서,
일반식(I)으로 표시되는 화합물을 2종 이상 함유하는 액정 조성물. - 제1항 내지 제3항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
또한, 일반식(LC3)∼일반식(LC5)
(식 중, RLC31, RLC32, RLC41, RLC42, RLC51 및 RLC52은 각각 독립하여 탄소 원자수 1∼15의 알킬기 또는 탄소 원자수 2∼15의 알케닐기를 나타내며, 당해 기 중의 1개 또는 2개 이상의 -CH2- 또는 인접해 있지 않은 2개 이상의 -CH2-는 각각 독립하여 -O- 또는 -S-로 치환되어도 되고, 또한, RLC31, RLC32, RLC41, RLC42, RLC51 및 RLC52 중에 존재하는 1개 또는 2개 이상의 수소 원자는 각각 독립하여 불소 원자 또는 염소 원자로 치환되어도 된다. ALC31, ALC32, ALC41, ALC42, ALC51 및 ALC52는 각각 독립하여 트랜스-1,4-시클로헥실렌기, 1,4-페닐렌기, 2-플루오로-1,4-페닐렌기, 3-플루오로-1,4-페닐렌기, 2,5-디플루오로-1,4-페닐렌기, 3,5-디플루오로-1,4-페닐렌기, 2,3-디플루오로-1,4-페닐렌기, 1,4-시클로헥세닐렌기, 테트라히드로피란-2,5-디일기, 1,3-디옥산-2,5-디일기, 1,4-비시클로[2.2.2]옥틸렌기, 피페리딘-1,4-디일기, 나프탈렌-2,6-디일기, 데카히드로나프탈렌-2,6-디일기 또는 1,2,3,4-테트라히드로나프탈렌-2,6-디일기를 나타낸다. ZLC31, ZLC32, ZLC41, ZLC42, ZLC51 및 ZLC52는 각각 독립하여 단결합, -CH=CH-, -C≡C-, -CH2CH2-, -(CH2)4-, -COO-, -OCO-, -OCH2-, -CH2O-, -OCF2- 또는 -CF2O-를 나타낸다. Z5는 -CH2- 또는 산소 원자를 나타낸다. XLC41는 수소 원자 또는 불소 원자를 나타내고, mLC31, mLC32, mLC41, mLC42, mLC51 및 mLC52은 각각 독립하여 0∼3을 나타내고, mLC31+mLC32, mLC41+mLC42 및 mLC51+mLC52은 1, 2 또는 3이고, ALC31∼ALC52, ZLC31∼ZLC52가 복수 존재하는 경우는, 그들은 동일해도 되며 달라도 된다)으로 표시되는 화합물 군에서 선택되는 화합물을 1종 또는 2종 이상 함유하는 액정 조성물. - 제1항 내지 제4항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
또한, 일반식(Ⅲ)
(식 중, R33 및 R34은 각각 독립하여 탄소 원자수 1∼15의 알킬기를 나타내며, 당해 알킬기 중의 1개 또는 2개 이상의 -CH2-는, 산소 원자가 직접 인접하지 않도록, -O-, -CH=CH-, -CO-, -OCO-, -COO-, -C≡C-, -CF2O- 또는 -OCF2-로 치환되어 되며, 당해 알킬기 중의 1개 또는 2개 이상의 수소 원자는 임의로 할로겐으로 치환되어 있어도 된다. A31∼A33는 각각 독립하여 트랜스-1,4-시클로헥실렌기, 1,4-페닐렌기, 2-플루오로-1,4-페닐렌기, 3-플루오로-1,4-페닐렌기, 2,5-디플루오로-1,4-페닐렌기, 3,5-디플루오로-1,4-페닐렌기, 1,4-시클로헥세닐렌기, 테트라히드로피란-2,5-디일기, 1,3-디옥산-2,5-디일기, 1,4-비시클로[2.2.2]옥틸렌기, 나프탈렌-2,6-디일기, 데카히드로나프탈렌-2,6-디일기 또는 1,2,3,4-테트라히드로나프탈렌-2,6-디일기를 나타낸다. Z31 및 Z32는 각각 독립하여 단결합, -CH=CH-, -C≡C-, -CH2CH2-, -(CH2)4-, -OCH2-, -CH2O-, -OCF2- 또는 -CF2O-를 나타낸다. m31은 0, 1 또는 2를 나타내고, A31 및 Z31가 복수 존재할 경우, 그들은 동일해도 되며, 달라도 된다. 단, 일반식(Ⅲ)으로 표시되는 화합물에 있어서, 일반식(I-Ⅳ)으로 표시되는 화합물을 제외한다)
으로 표시되는 화합물을 1종 또는 2종 이상 함유하는 액정 조성물. - 제1항 내지 제5항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
일반식(I) 중의 n1이 3을 나타내는 액정 조성물. - 제1항 내지 제6항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
일반식(I-Ⅳ)으로 표시되는 화합물의 함유량의 총량이 액정 조성물에 있어서 3질량% 내지 70질량%인 액정 조성물. - 제1항 내지 제7항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
일반식(I)의 함유량이 액정 조성물에 있어서 0.01질량% 내지 5질량%인 액정 조성물. - 제4항 내지 제9항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
일반식(LC3)∼일반식(LC5)으로 표시되는 화합물 군에서 선택되는 화합물의 함유량의 총량이 액정 조성물에 있어서 10질량% 내지 90질량%인 액정 조성물. - 제1항 내지 제9항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
25℃에 있어서의 유전율 이방성(Δε)이 -2.0 내지 -8.0의 범위이고, 20℃에 있어서의 굴절율 이방성(Δn)이 0.08 내지 0.14의 범위이고, 20℃에 있어서의 점도(η)가 10 내지 30m㎩·s의 범위이고, 20℃에 있어서의 회전 점성(γ1)이 60 내지 130m㎩·s의 범위이고, 네마틱상-등방성 액체상 전이 온도(Tni)가 60℃ 내지 120℃의 범위인 액정 조성물. - 제1항 내지 제10항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
중합성 화합물 및/또는 산화방지제를 1종 또는 2종 이상 함유하는 액정 조성물. - 제1항 내지 제11항 중 어느 한 항에 기재된 액정 조성물을 사용한 액정 표시 소자.
- 제1항 내지 제11항 중 어느 한 항에 기재된 액정 조성물을 사용한 액티브 매트릭스 구동용 액정 표시 소자.
- 제1항 내지 제11항 중 어느 한 항에 기재된 액정 조성물을 사용한 VA형, PSVA형, PSA형, FFS형, ECB형 또는 IPS형의 액정 표시 소자.
