Abstract

PURPOSE: A direct pointing system is provided to enable a user to freely operate a menu of a television or select a movable object by directly pointing a position on a menu screen by light. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises a light emitter, a light emission switch, a menu selection switch, a sensor(22), a position calculator(31), a CPU(32), an image processor(33), a cursor generator(34) and a displayer(35). The user projects the light on the menu of the television by operating the light emitter. The sensor(22) senses a position of the light, projected by the user, on a screen by installing a sensing panel between an LCD panel and a back light. The position calculator(31) calculates the position based on the sensed signals. The cursor generator(34) generates the cursor corresponding to the position calculated from the position calculator(31). The image processor processes the image to be displayed on the screen under the control of the CPU(32). The displayer(35) displays the cursor and the processed image.
