Abstract
제 1 성분으로서 큰 광학 이방성을 갖는 특정의 3 고리 화합물, 및 제 2 성분으로서 메틸렌옥시기 또는 피란 고리를 갖는 유전율 이방성이 부로 큰 화합물을 함유하고, 제 3 성분으로서 작은 점도를 갖는 특정의 화합물, 및 제 4 성분으로서 부로 큰 유전율 이방성을 갖는 특정의 화합물을 각각 함유해도 되며, 그리고 부의 유전율 이방성을 갖는 액정 조성물, 및 이 조성물을 함유하는 액정 표시 소자이다.

Claims (25)
- 제 1 성분으로서 식 (1) 로 나타내는 화합물의 군에서 선택된 적어도 1 개의 화합물, 제 2 성분으로서 식 (2) 로 나타내는 화합물의 군에서 선택된 적어도 1 개의 화합물, 및 제 3 성분으로서 식 (3) 으로 나타내는 화합물의 군에서 선택된 적어도 1 개의 화합물을 함유하고, 제 3 성분 중 적어도 1 개의 화합물은 식 (3-1)이고, 액정 조성물의 전체 중량에 기초하여, 제 1 성분의 비율이 5 중량% 내지 95 중량% 의 범위이며, 그리고 부의 유전율 이방성을 갖는 액정 조성물.
여기에서, R1, R2, R3, 및 R4 는 독립적으로 탄소수 1 내지 12 의 알킬, 탄소수 1 내지 12 의 알콕시, 탄소수 2 내지 12 의 알케닐옥시, 탄소수 2 내지 12 의 알케닐, 또는 임의의 수소가 불소로 치환된 탄소수 2 내지 12 의 알케닐이고 ; 고리 A 는 독립적으로

제 1 성분이 식 (1-1) 로 나타내는 화합물의 군에서 선택된 적어도 1 개의 화합물인 액정 조성물. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
액정 조성물의 전체 중량에 기초하여, 제 1 성분의 비율이 10 중량% 내지 60 중량% 의 범위이며, 그리고 제 2 성분의 비율이 10 중량% 내지 90 중량% 의 범위인 액정 조성물. - 삭제
- 제 1 항에 있어서,
액정 조성물의 전체 중량에 기초하여, 제 3 성분의 비율이 5 중량% 내지 60 중량% 의 범위인 액정 조성물. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
제 4 성분으로서 식 (4-1) 및 식 (4-2) 로 나타내는 화합물의 군에서 선택된 적어도 1 개의 화합물을 추가로 함유하는 액정 조성물.

네마틱상의 상한 온도가 70 ℃ 이상이고, 파장 589 ㎚ 에 있어서의 광학 이방성 (25 ℃) 이 0.08 이상이며, 그리고 주파수 1 ㎑ 에 있어서의 유전율 이방성 (25 ℃) 이 -2 이하인 액정 조성물. - 제 1 항에 기재된 액정 조성물을 함유하는 액정 표시 소자.
- 제 15 항에 있어서,
액정 표시 소자의 동작 모드가 VA 모드, IPS 모드, 또는 PSA 모드이고, 액정 표시 소자의 구동 방식이 액티브 매트릭스 방식인 액정 표시 소자. - 삭제
