Using a thermomagnetic writing method that uses a laser beam narrowed to about 1 μmφ and an external magnetic field, it is possible to record at an extremely high density of 108 bits/-, and in principle it can be erased and rewritten nearly infinite times. It has excellent features.

試みられている。It is well known that adding a small amount of Co to the RE-iron system can improve both corrosion resistance and magnetic/magneto-optical properties.
It is being However, the addition of Co causes a sharp increase in height, and excessive addition of Co makes thermomagnetic writing difficult, so that only a small amount can be added. The RE-iron cobalt film doped with a small amount of Co has better magnetic and magneto-optical properties than either the RE-iron system or the RE-Kohal 1-system. On the other hand, although the corrosion resistance is slightly improved over the RE-iron system, it is still extremely unsatisfactory. Therefore, attempts have been made to improve the corrosion resistance by coating with a protective layer.

It can be seen that the results are improved. In addition, sample No.
When No. 1 to No. 10 are coated with the SiO protective layer 4, the corrosion resistance is significantly superior to that when they are bare, but corrosion from minute defects in the protective layer 4 is unavoidable.

きい。(3) Kerr rotation angle Regarding the Kerr rotation angle, the addition of 11 has almost no adverse effect up to 2 to 8%, but if more is added, the Kerr rotation angle gradually decreases. On the other hand, addition of M2 causes a decrease in Kerr rotation angle. However, the corrosion resistance improves as more Ti, 82 is added. Therefore, the addition of Ti and H2 may be selected depending on the purpose. Further, the decrease in the Kerr rotation angle due to the addition of Ti and H2 is small within the addition range of this example, and the increase in the Kerr rotation angle can be avoided by utilizing the Kerr effect enhancement by the dielectric layer 2. There is no problem at all in practice. Rather, the advantage of improved corrosion resistance is greater.

きる。(Effects of the Invention) As described in detail above, according to the present invention, since the magneto-optical B layer is made of a RE-Ti-Ml-82 alloy, the corrosion resistance is significantly improved. Due to this improvement in corrosion resistance, recording stability is significantly improved, and deterioration of writing and reproducing characteristics over time can also be suppressed. Furthermore, the restrictions and demands on the protective layer are significantly relaxed, the fractional yield of the magneto-optical recording medium is improved, and the effect of reducing the cost of the medium can also be expected.
