Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the corrosion of a separator base material by providing a ceramic coating layer on the wet seal section of the separator base material and forming a molten layer by a laser beam on the surface of the ceramic coating layer. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic coating layer 9 is provided on the surface of the periphery of a separator base material 4a, i.e., on a wet seal section constituted between it and a tile. A laser beam is radiated on the surface of the ceramic coating layer 9 to eliminate air holes 9a on the surface, and a molten layer 9b is formed to constitute a separator 4'. Many air holes in the ceramic coating layer 9 are thereby set to a nonconducting state in the thickness direction. Even if a corrosion liquid contacts the surface of the coating layer 9, the corrosion liquid does not reach the separator base material 4a through the air holes 9a, thus the corrosion of the separator base material can be prevented.
