Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect raindrops on the surface of a substrate from the reverse surface of the substrate with high sensitivity by detecting the electrostatic capacity between detection electrodes which varies with the size of raindrops sticking on a protective film through a coupling electrode and the capacity coupling between the detection electrodes. CONSTITUTION:The detection electrodes 0A-39N are formed on the surface of the substrate 1 made of a glass epoxy printed board. Comb teeth shaped coupling electrodes 10a and 10b are arranged on the reverse surface of the substrate 1 at specific positions opposite to the electrodes 0A-39N. The electrodes 10a and 10b are connected to an oscillation circuit 100 respectively. A coating 3 as the protective film which insulates the surfaces of the electrodes 0A-39N electrically and precludes oxidation, corrosion, etc., is provided on the surfaces of the electrodes 0A-39N. The raindrop detecting device detects the raindrop sticking on the surface of the substrate 1 as variation in the electrostatic capacity between the electrodes 10a and 10b. Consequently, the raindrop is detected with high sensitivity.
