Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain efficient coding transmission by converting a predicted error differential vector pattern into a predicted moving vector pattern, comparing a pattern subject to moving compensation with an input pattern, selecting a predicted error moving vector pattern whose distortion is minimized and sending its index. CONSTITUTION:A matching discrimination circuit 3, according to the obtained prediction moving vector pattern, compensates the moving of a pattern block from a frame memory 12, compares the input pattern block and a pattern block and selects a predicted moving vector pattern whose error, i.e., distortion is least. In order to obtain the predicted error pattern corresponding to the predicted moving vector pattern, the selected prediction moving vector pattern is sent to a prediction device 2, where the index of the prediction error pattern corresponding in the stored code block 1 is read and an entropy coder 10 applies variable length coding to the index and send it to the receiver side through a transmission line.
