Abstract

PURPOSE:To judge a rough road rapidly and accurately by measuring the time from when wheel acceleration crossed a first reference value from small to large till the same crossing again occurred, and, during this time, if it crossed a smaller second reference value from large to small with the time for it being smaller than a defined value, judging to be a rough road. CONSTITUTION:Wheel acceleration is measured based on a wheel speed sensor 3 and compared with defined reference values by comparators 15-18 to judge a rough road. And, by taking two acceleration values as the reference values, the time from when the wheel acceleration crossed a first reference value alpha1 from a smaller value than this to a larger value till when another crossing in the same direction occurred again, is measured by a time 23. During this time, if the crossing of a second reference value alpha2 which is smaller than the alpha1 from a larger to a smaller value occurred and, further, if the time for it is smaller than a defined value, judgement is formed to be a rough road. There by, judging time can be reduced without misjudging to be a rough road while judging the rough road rapidly and accurately.
