Abstract

PURPOSE:To stabilize continuous operation by forming a coating film composing of the specific wt.% of Ni and Cr, respectively, on end face of cooling rolls and further, forming a coating film composing of the specific wt.% of Wc and Co, respectively, on the above surface and at end face holding. CONSTITUTION:The coating film 6 having composition of 50-80wt.% Ni and 20-50% Cr is formed on the end face of the cooling roll 3 and the second coating film 7 composing of 85-97% Wc and 3-15% Co on the above film. Further, on the surface of the end face holding 5 bringing into contact with the end face of the cooling roll 3, the coating film 8 is formed as the same composition as the coating film 7. By this method, the coating films 6, 7, 8 formed on the cooling roll 3 and the end face holding 5, respectively, are only a little erosion and has high adhesive strength. Therefore, the damage and wear at the end face of the cooling roll 3 are prevented, and the occurrence of molten metal leakage and penetration and the abnormal development of solidified shell are prevented.
