Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable an amount of produced ice to be accurately sensed in a non-contacted state by a method wherein a transmitter for radiating light from a light source and a receiver for receiving light are oppositely arranged in an optical state within a heat accumulating tank. CONSTITUTION: Emitted light from an LED 21 reaches a transmitter 23 through a light emitting side optical fiber 22, radiated into water kept in a heat accumulating tank, advances straight, reaches a receiver 24 arranged in opposition to the transmitter and then it is transmitted to a photo-transistor 26 through a light receiving side optical fiber 25. Then, in the case that ice 28 is not sufficiently grown, only water is present at a clearance between the transmitter 23 and time receiver 24, light from the LED 21 advances in straight manner in this clearance to reach the photo-transistor 26. In the case that ice is sufficiently grown, the light is deflected and reflected at an interface plane between water and ice and then an intensity of incident light against the receiver 24 is decreased. Then, a sensitivity of the photo-transistor 26 is set to a proper value to cause the photo-transistor 26 to judge that the light of the LED 21 is not transmitted and then a signal for finishing the ice heat accumulating operation is produced.
