Abstract
PURPOSE:To develop a steel having high anneal hardness and low thermal expansion coefficient, by maintaining Cr content in a steel at a specific value, reducing Mn content, and controlling C and Si contents to specific values, respectively. CONSTITUTION:As a low-expansion steel most suitable used for precision electronic equipment member, a steel having a composition containing, by weight, 0.1-0.3% C, <1.0% Si, <1.5% Mn, 6.0-12.0% Cr, and, as impurities, <0.04% P, <0.04% S, and <0.2% Ni is used. By this method, the low-expansion steel in which Cr sharply reduced thermal expansion coefficient is incorporated by relatively large amounts and the content of Mn increasing thermal expansion coefficient but improving hardenability is controlled to a low value and, further, steel strength is improved by regulating respective contents of C and Si to specific ranges and which has an average linear expansion coefficient at 35-100 deg.C as low as <=11.5X10<-6>/ deg.C and also has 75-100 anneal hardness HRB after cold working can be obtained.
