Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the title cured resin without decreasing the rate of curing even when E glass fiber is used, by using E glass fiber as a reinforcing fiber and curing a phenolic resin containing an acid curing agent in the presence of a zirconium salt of a strong acid. CONSTITUTION:E glass fiber is used as a reinforcing fiber, and a phenolic resin containing an acid curing agent (e.g., sulfonic acid) is cured in the presence of a zirconium salt of a strong acid (e.g., zirconium oxychloride). When a phenolic resin containing an acid curing agent, especially, a sulfonic acid is reinforced with E glass fiber, there is usually a tendency toward markedly decreasing a rate of curing. By this addition of the zirconium salt, the phenolic resin can be cured rapidly at low temperature to give a fiber-reinforced phenolic resin of a high strength.
