Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R<1> represents organic residue bonding through carbon atom; R<2> represents carboxyl group which may be esterified or amidated; X represents O or S which may be oxidized) or salt thereof. EXAMPLE:4-Nitrobenzyl 2-phenoxy-5-oxo-2-tetrahydrofurancarboxylate. USE:An antibacterial agent. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II (R<2>' represents esterified carboxy group; Z<1> represents leaving group) is condensed with a compound expressed by the formula R<1>'-X'-Z<2> (R<1>' is same as R<1>; X' represents O or S; Z<2> represents leaving group) and, as necessary, the group R<1>' is converted into the other R<1>. S is treated with an oxidizing agent and converted into oxidized S or the esterified carboxy group is subjected to hydrolysis, amidation or salt- forming reaction.
