Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the title aluminum powder having excellent fluidity and capable of providing a compact having excellent sintering property, sintering density, and mechanical strength by granulating and drying a hydrosol wherein specified hydrated alumina is dispersed, and then calcining the granules. CONSTITUTION:The hydrated alumina having a boehmite structure, wherein 0.1-20wt.% alpha-alumina having 10-70% alpha-coherency and <=0.5mu mean primary particle diameter is uniformly dispersed as a seed is dispersed in water or an aq. acidic soln. so that the content of alumina, expressed in terms of AAl2O3, is controlled to 5-50wt.% to obtain a hydrosol. A binder such as PVA and CMC is then added, as required, to the hydrosol, the hydrosol is granulated and dried by a spray drying method, etc., to obtain granular dry powder having 1-200mu granule diameter (secondary particle diameter). The powder is then calcined at >=1000 deg.C for several minutes to ten-odd hours, and then disintegrated by a ball mill, etc., to obtain the title uniform powder having <=1mu mean primary particle diameter.
