Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a film having excellent quality on the surface of a base material in an arc thermal spraying method by providing a shielding nozzle which covers the tips of a wire concentrically to the outside of a center nozzle and supplying an inert gas to the inside of these nozzles. CONSTITUTION:Electric current is supplied to a pair of the metallic wires 10 from a power supply for arc generation to generate an arc 12 between the tips of the wires 4. The tips of a pair of the wires 10 are, therefore, melted by the heat of the arc 12 and molten metal particles 13 are flown by the gas injected from the center nozzle 7 and are stuck to the surface of the base material 8. The shielding nozzle 11 is provided concentrically to the outside of the center nozzle 7 at this time to cover the tips of a pair of the wires 10. The inert gas is supplied from the center nozzle and a spacing between the center nozzle 7 and the shielding nozzle 11 and the wires 10 are continuously supplied through guide pipes 9. The oxidation on the surface of the molten metal particles 13 is thereby suppressed and the thermally sprayed film 14 having the excellent adhesiveness and denseness is formed on the base plate 8.
