Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain reliability and economy by constituting a titled transmitter of a light source for optical communication, a waveguide type optical distributor, waveguide type optical modulators formed on the same substrate as the substrate of said distributor, and driver circuits for driving these optical modulators. CONSTITUTION:A laser diode driver circuit 2 supplies DC current to a laser diode 1. The diode 1 emits light at all times. The light output of the diode 1 is equally distributed by the waveguide type optical distributor 3 formed on the LiNbO3 substrate 4. The distributed light outputs are modulated in intensity by the waveguide type modulators 9-12 respectively formed on the substrate 4. The optical signal transmitter of the simple constitution is realized and the high reliability is obtd. by using the single light source and the external modulators according to this constitution. Since the distributor 3 and the modulators 9-12 are formed on the same substrate 4, the economical optical signal transmitter is realized.
