Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copolymer outstanding in dimensional stability, strength, processability and heat resistance, by reaction between an organic tetracarboxylic dianhydride and too little polar amount of organic diamine to prepare a prepolymer and then carrying out reaction with specified amount of a second organic diamine followed by ring closure on dehydration. CONSTITUTION:First, a reaction is carried out, in an organic polar solvent, between (A) an organic tetracarboxylic dianhydride of formula I (R0 is tetravalent aromatic group) and (B) too little molar amount of an organic diamine of formula II [R1 is of formula III (X is monovalent substituent) or of formula IV] to prepare a prepolymer having acid anhydride groups at the both ends. Thence, this prepolymer is incorporated with (C) such amount of a second organic diamine of formula V (R2 is the same kind as R1) that the total organic diamine (components B plus C) be equimolar to the component A followed by the reaction to form the objective polyamic acid copolymer. This copolymer is then thermally or chemically dehydrated to effect ring closure, thus obtaining the other objective copolymer constituted of recurring unit of formula VI (m is positive integer).
