Abstract
PURPOSE:To uniformly cool with high speed and to improve the productivity by bringing cooling plates into contact with forming metallic dies to swiftly cool the molds and disposing the contact part between the forming metallic dies and the cooling plates in optimum arrangement so that uniform cooling is carried out. CONSTITUTION:For instance, a glass lens 1 is formed by pressing the glass material heated below the softening temp. and over the transition temp. of glass by the upper and the lower metallic molds 2, 3, through insulating plates 7, 8. Then, the cooling plates 4, 5 of halved cylindrical shape made of stainless steel which is always cooled by the cooling water of about 20 deg.C flowed through inner holes 6 and is placed apart from the metallic molds 4, 5 when the molds are heated, is brought into contact with the side surfaces of the metallic dies 2, 3 to cool the metallic dies 2, 3 and the lens 1 up to the temp. at which the lens 1 is solidified and allowed to take out without deformation. By densting 2l/L (contact rate) as 0.2-0.8, in which (l) is contact length and L is the total length of the metallic molds 2, 3 in the molding state, the lens is cooled within about four minutes securing the dimensional precision of lens.
