Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten the length of time required for access by providing a linear scale on an optical card, using an optical pickup and detecting this optical card in its position. CONSTITUTION:The linear scale 2 is provided on the optical card 1, and the position of the optical card 1 is detected by using the optical pickup. Consequently, in case of accessing some target track, the optical card 1 is moved into the vicinity of the target track by using a signal from the optical pickup, and afterward, a track address is read out of the optical pickup so as to access the target track. By this method, the required time for access can drastically be shortened.
