PURPOSE:To obtain an enlarged print image of a high quality and inexpensive printer by generating an interpolated image easily by combining a high frequency band emphasis arithmetic unit with an interpolater that executes the average arithmetic operation for vertical and horizontal picture elements. CONSTITUTION:The titled printer is provide independently with the arithmetic means 11 to emphasize the high frequency component of an original image by means of two-dimensional combination of picture elements, a means 12 which executes the arithmetic operation of the inter-like interpolation of an output image from the means 11, and a means 13 to generate an interpolated image by executing the in-line interpolation arithmetic operation between output images from the respective means 11, 12. The high-frequency component emphasis arithmetic means executes the emphasis arithmetic operation for at least five of the picture elements of an original image in two dimensional arrangement. An output from the emphasis arithmetic means is subjected to an inter-line interpolation operation and an in-line interpolation arithmetic operation, and thus an interplated image operated with at least eight pieces of original picture elements is generated. In such a way, two dimensional interpolation picture elements are easily generated, and a large print image of excellent quality can be obtained.
