Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a device compact and to enable reduction in cost by installing split dies which grip a blank pipe into a container and receiving upsetting force, via the containers, in the frame of an upsetting machine. CONSTITUTION:An upsetting machine consists of split dies 25a, 25b, an annular container 24 contg. the dies 25a, 25b, a clamping cylinder 28 which pushes and pulls the dies 25a, 25b in an axial center direction and a pressing device. Said dies 25a, 25b are of a truncated circular cone shape, and forms forming die holes 31 at the split end faces. The pressing device is formed of a mandrel 23a and punch 23 which are fitted into the holes 31 and press the end face of the blank pipe. The coupled surface between the dies 25a, 25b and the container 24 is formed of a slidable dovetail grooved joint 29. The device is made compact and the cost is reduced by the above-mentioned upsetting machine.
