Abstract
PURPOSE: A covering material for optical glass fiber in which a diacrylate or dimethacrylate of polyether polyol of a specific molecular weight is used as the major component, thus showing high adhesion even in low viscosity and high curing rate and giving flexible coating films.
CONSTITUTION: The covering material is mainly composed of a dicarylate or dimethacrylate of polyether polyol of more than 200 average molecular weight, e.g., diacrylic ester of polyethlene glycol. When necessary, the covering material is combined with a compound having one or more additionally polymerizable double bonds such as acrylic ester, methacrylic ester or allyl ester. Since it has low viscosity and high curing rate, the productivity in the coating of optical fiber glass is increased. Further, it forms flexible coating films, resulting in increased strength and reliablity of optical glass fiber.
