Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the torsional strength of a leaf spring made of fiber-reinforced plastic, by making the outer part of the leaf spring of plastic reinforced with long fibers and its inner part of plastic reinforced with short fibers, to cause the inner and the outer parts to share the stress. CONSTITUTION:When upward force acts to the center of the bottom of a leaf spring 1 made of fiber-reinforced plastic, compressive stress is generated in the lower inner part 1d of the spring, and tensile stress is generated in its upper outer part 1c. The compressive and tensile stress are absorbed by directional long fibers 2. When torsional force acts to the leaf spring 1, torsional stress is generated in the central part 1f and the outer parts 1e of both sides. The torsional stress is absorbed by the undirectional short fibers 3 of the central part 1f and the directional long fibers 2 of the outer parts 1e of the sides.
