Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a core material for use in building materials excellent in sound-proof, heat-insulating and other effects, and straw mats having high effects of conditioning moisture and retaining heat, and the like by a method wherein a mixture of cut chips of straw with an aqueous solution containing a polyvinyl alcohol and a vinyl acetate emulsion is subjected to thermocompression.
CONSTITUTION: The cut straw chips 4 of 6W7cm in length are laid on a plate with their fiber directions set at random, an an aqueous solution prepared by adding 50g of a powder form polyvinyl alcohol and 500g of a vinyl acetate emulsion into 1l of water is sprayed onto the cut straw chips 4. After the solution is penetrated into the straw chips 4, the chips 4 are stacked on a hot press base in a thickness of about 150mm and are hot-pressed in the conditions of 150W 160°C, 40t to obtain the core material 2 of about 20mm in thickness. Decorative sheets 3 coated with an adhesive are laminated on the core material 2 and are bonded to the material 2 under a pressure applied by a cold press or a hot press to form a building material 1. The sheet to be laminated on the core material 2 is not limited to the decorative sheet 3 and may be a gypsum board or the like.
