Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the distance between the leading end of a medium and the first-line printing position and enlarge the printable area on the medium by a method wherein the leading end part of a sheet form medium is clamped on a platen by a friction roller, then the platen is rotated backwardly to a specified position and a feed error is corrected.
CONSTITUTION: With the friction roller 8 separated from the platen 1, the platen 1 is rotated clockwise to feed the sheet form medium 4a forwardly until the leading end part 4b of the medium 4a reaches the position of a sensor 21. Subsequently, the leading end part 4b is clamped by pressing the roller 8 against the platen 1, and it is fed backwards to the proximity of a pressure contacting position of the roller 8 and the platen 1 by rotating the platen 1 backwards by a preset amount. Simultaneously, according to the number of driving pulses and the number of the pulses detected at a sensor 20, operation of a driving motor is corrected by a backlash amount of a platen driving system, thereby protruding the leading end of the medium 4a. Accordingly, the distance A between the leading end part 4b and the first-line printing position 16 is reduced.
