Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a polyethylene having a low content of halogen, not requiring an operation to remove a catalyst residue, by using a catalyst prepared from a specific aluminum-silica type solid catalytic component and an organoaluminum compound.
CONSTITUTION: Ethylene is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst obtained from (A) a solid catalyst component prepared by reacting granulated materials of both an aluminum halide and silica with (i) a tetraalkoxysilane shown by the formulaI(R1 is 1W8C alkyl) to give a reaction product, reacting the reaction product with (ii) a Grignard compound shown by the formula II (R2 is 1W8C alkyl; X1 is halogen atom) to give a solid, followed by bringing the solid into contact with (iii) titanium tetrahalide or vanadium oxytrihalide, and (B) an organoaluminum compound shown by the formula III (R3 is 2W6C alkyl; X2 is halogen; n is 2 or 3).
