Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform a quick preheating and a stable preheating by means of a quick heating controller and a stabilizing controller, respectively by powering a glow plug automatic preheater in response to a detection of a person's ride on a vehicle. CONSTITUTION:When a door is opened, a normally opened contact point 206a in a main relay 206 is closed to start preheating of glow plugs 4, 5, 6 and 7. At this starting time, a large current is fed to the glow plugs 4, 5, 6 and 7 through a PTC resistor 115 whose initial resistance is low. The glow plugs are thereby heated up to approximately 900 deg.C or so and at this time, a resistance of the PTC resistor 115 is abruptly increased. Thereafter, a moderate current is fed to the glow plugs 4, 5, 6 and 7 through a stable preheating resistor 116 so as to keep the temperatures of the heated plugs nearly constant.
