Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high S/N ratio even at a low speed, by time-compressing an audio signal of a single rotating head system and performing multiplex- recording throulgh frequency division, restoring it to the original pitch through time expansion at reproduction and making it a consecutive signal. CONSTITUTION:In a single rotating head system, for example, video signals of NTSC are recorded on a video track 2a as every one field as luminance signal III of low carrier modulation and as low frequency carrier chrominance signal IV, and compressed audio signals are recorded as mixing and multiplex as V or VI at upper and lower bands. Two charge transfer elements (BBD) which are alternately read out and written in are used, the audio signal in time compression is multiplex-recorded, and the two read in the same audio through overlapping for the switching period of track. At playback, the time is expanded and the original audio pitch is restored and reproduced as a consecutive audio signal. Thus, the audio signal with good frequency characteristics and low noise are obtained even at a low running speed.
