Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the life of a plane discharge type gas discharge panel by using cells between XY electrodes provided in two layers only for matrix adress operation and while using cells between adjacent electrodes for trickle discharge. CONSTITUTION:X-electrodes 13 are provided as upper layer electrodes in the crossing direction to Y-electrodes 11 which are provided as lower layer electrodes on a substrate spaced with an insulating film, and Z-electrodes 18 are provided on the same upper layer electrode plane as X-electrodes 13 as the third electrodes extending in parallel to each X-electrode 13. The X-electrodes 13 and Z-electrodes 18 which are provided adjacent each other on a common plane are provided with electrode parts Xa and Za which project each other to come closer, which electrode parts are provided adjacent to crossings of X-electrodes and Y-electrodes, and Xa and Za prescribe discharge cells Sc for trickle discharge forming pairs. Thus a plane discharge type gas panel with long life can be obtained.
