Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a switching pulse train having a nearly constant peak-to-peak value by a method wherein the number of modulation pulses of high frequency electric field applied to an acoustic and optical Q switch is gradually increased at the time of generating Q switch pulses and the number of modulation pulses is controlled at a fixed value after several pulses to control the peak-to-peak value of the first pulse. CONSTITUTION:A solid state laser substance 11 is excited by an exciting light source 12 and a condenser 13 and arranged in reflecting mirrors 14, 15 composing a laser resonator. Laser oscillation arranged in the laser resonator goes pulses by an acoustic and optical light modulator 16. The modulator 16 is composed of an ultrasonic cell 17 made of a fused quartz plate and an electroacoustic transducing element 19 forming an ultrasonic phase diffraction grid 18 and a high-frequency signal from a high-frequency device 20 is applied to the element 19. A Q switch control external signal 25 is supplied to a modulation signal generating circuit 23 in the driver 20 and the output from a VHF oscillator 21 is modulated by a modulating circuit 23. And the signal 25 is gradually increased at the time of generating pulses and the pulses are controlled at a fixed value after several pulses to form a pulse train having a nearly constant peak-to-peak value after several pulses to apply the signal 25 to the element 19.
