Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an aluminum alloy for a heat exchanger tube, whose anti-pitting-corrosion property is superior, by incorporating a specified quantity of Cu into aluminum.
CONSTITUTION: The alloy is prepared from 0.2W1.0wt% of Cu and balance of aluminum and unavoidable impurities, particulary Fe+Si in an amount of 1.0% or less by weight. When this alloy is used as a tube material in a heat exchanger wherein it is brazed in combination with sacrifical anode fines, it will exhibit excellent resistance to corrosion. As Fe and Si are present as impurities necessarilly in aluminum, the alloy is offered at a suitable cost, and can have suitable strength. The sacrifical anode fins or a skin material used in combination with the alloy should be of an electric potential lower than that of the alloy, and the electric potential is preferably about -800mV or below by the saturated calomel electric potential reference in 5% NaCl/solution (25°C).
